Arthur Murray's Collegiate Shag (1937)

Probably the most notable and well known Collegiate Shag film clip in history, this short takes a look at the dance as it is broken down and taught by famed ballroom teacher, Arthur Murray. The clip is also famous for featuring four "real" shag dancers (including Tom Gallagher), each having a spotlight performance. The short concludes with a group shag routine performance.

It's In The Stars (1938)

This short about a conflicted Fraternity and Sorority features a dance scene with some shag inspired steps. There is also a brief appearance by Benny Goodman on the dance floor while his band plays "Stompin' At the Savoy."

The Bachelor Mother (1939)

This film about a young lady discovering a foundling infant features a dance contest scene with a variety of jitterbugging.

Blondie Meets The Boss (1939)

Part of the Blondie and Dagwood serial films, this film contains a dance contest scene which features some shag steps invented by Ray Hirsch and Patti Lacey.

Naughty But Nice (1939)

Although devotees to shag insist that the dance isn't silly, this film definitly portrays the jitterbug spirit that is closely connected to shag.

Mad Youth (1940)

Originally titled "Marajuana Madness" this mental hygene film was intended to scare teens and parents away from the wild lifestyle that comes with drug use; however, what we are left with is some great jitterbug dancing from three couples, including Ray Hirsch and Patti Lacey.

Ride Em Cowboy (1942)

This clip featuring the Merry Macs and Ella Fitzgerald features many types of swing dancing, but if you look closely, you'll catch Ray Hirsch and Patti Lacey dancing the Shag.

Kid Dynamite (1943)

One of the Bowery Boys films, this movie features a dance contest scene with all types of jitterbug, but if you watch carefully you'll be able to see several shag inspired steps.

The Powers Girl (1943)

The famous "dancing in the rain" swing dancing clip, features the Benny Goodman Orchestra performing at a fairgrounds on a raining day. Eventhough it's most known for Dean Collins and Jewel MacGowan dancing while holding an umbrella, there is also a couple featured doing shag.

Groovie Movie (1944)

This short film is cherished as the best example of Hollywood style jitterbug, and although the majority of the dancing is Lindy Hop, Shag is also featured by Arthur Walsh and Jean Veloz.
